  • Offer self-reflective opportunities focusing on expression and development of personal style
  • Provide opportunities to develop interpersonal skills through collaborative work
  • Improve perceptual skills and strengthen their knowledge base
  • Enhance their critical and creative thinking abilities as well as problem solving skills
  • Develop visual literacy skills
  • Broaden their career opportunities and possible application
  • Foster development of 21st century skills

Course offerings provide guided learning experiences with two-dimensional and three-dimensional art forms and concepts. A variety of subject matter, materials, tools and production techniques are explored. The courses encourage students to make connections with other disciplines through class discussions, assignments, research, readings, lectures, guest speakers and field trips.

Conard Student's Artwork on Display at High School, Inc.

Mr. Terrell Hill, Principal of High School, Inc. visited Conard dring the CREC Open House in early December. At that time, he viewed Lauren Windhorst's moving portrait of humanitarian, Nelson Mandela which was on display in our showcase.  Since then, Mr. Hill  added this portrait to his collection of world leaders at High School, Inc., the school with a focus on insurance and finance.

Mr. Hill visited Conard to meet Laura Windhorst, artist and creator of the portrait of Nelson Mandela. He thanked her for her exceptional portrait of this world leader.

The following are Laura's words:

"I think Nelson Mandela is a role model for all of us. He is so impressive that I cannot even find the right words that would describe such a great man.  He changed this world and made it a better place for teaching us the lesson of forgiveness. He fought for his rights and the rights of all people and he was a great leader in the freedom struggle.

When I heard about Nelson Mandela's death, I was sad and shocked.  But I like to think that he will continue to live on in all of us and that his legacy will never be forgotten."
